As a fellow Vermonter, I have to ask you this question: Have you ever met someone who thought Vermont was in Canada? I have met several such misinformed people, one of whom thought she was in New Hampshire because she didn't remember crossing the (U.S.-Canada) border into Vermont. Now for a question related to your writing: Do you have any plans to return to this setting after you finish the trilogy?

Hi Peter -- Thanks for the questions, and my apologies for taking so long to answer! Somehow these goodreads questions slip past me more often than not.
I once returned from Canada (I was in high school) through NH. It was late (midnight?) and there was no gate, so we just drove right by the station. That, as it turns out, was a bad idea. The border guards were not amused. As for people thinking VT is Canada, I haven't run into that yet, but it wouldn't surprise me...
And yes, I'll definitely keep writing in this world, even after this trilogy is done. I've got a whole batch of stories I'm just itching to get to....

One of the biggest complaints I hear from other reviewers is that they expected Valyn to be a much smarter leader having been in special forces training for a number of years. The other is that considering Kadens importance to the future, he seems to be have his life placed in peril rather often which leads to the question what happens if he died??

I loved the series but the ending for the kettral birds really made me sad and disappointed. When the heroes went back to the islands and found that only a couple kettral birds were left alive, they then had them fight each other and took them off to war again. Does this mean that the species is now doomed to extinction? They should have stayed on their island and bred more birds and trained more ketrall warriors...
