Shantinath Chaudhary asked this question about
A Fine Balance:
Why did the author deem it fit to end the book with the unexpected and shocking suicide of a lovely character? Don't you think it looked out of place and was unnecessary turn of event in the story? After all, the person had started from Home with a positive resolve, and was made to look a very wise and mature person, so why that sudden change of mind for him? Couldn't an alternate line of story been more suitable?
