Twenty years of learning better. A good bit under Cordelia's Betan tutelage, but doubtless other life lessons and observations as well.
Some readers seem to process characters as going into stasis between moments on stage, stored in a prop box until needed, and get unduly confused when they grow and change between viewings as if they were real people with real, complex lives. (Some people do the same with their family members, so it isn't a phenomenon confined to fiction.)

I was rereading The Warrior's Apprentice, and Bothari's impassioned speech just before he was killed really struck me. I never felt empathy for that character before, but his desperate wish was to be buried at the foot of Cordelia's grave. In Gentleman Jole, Cordelia is moving forward with life on Sergyar. Does she plan for her eventual remains to be interred on Sergyar, or on Barrayar?

Near the end of “The Prisoner of Limnos”, Penric mentioned to Nikys that “I might still like to take you to visit Adria sometime.” I wonder whether that thought remained with him? If so, there are two ways that we might see Lodi again: with or without flashback. I’m not obsessed with Lodi, it's just that our first visit was brief, and it’s been on my mind recently. I once visited Venice briefly…
