Dear Lori, I loved your book--I was wondering how you feel about therapists like the one featured in "The Shrink Next Door" podcast and if there's any way a client can protect him or herself from an unscrupulous therapist?
Lori Gottlieb
Hi Trudi, somebody JUST mentioned that podcast to me yesterday, so I haven't heard it. So with the caveat that I don't know the story other than how it was described to me, I'll say that situations like those tend to get a lot of attention (for good reason; the public should know) and that the 99% of therapists who are doing their jobs ethically and for the right reasons don't make for juicy dramatic stories like that one. I hope in my book, I give a good sense of what therapy tends to be like. That said, if something ever feels "off" with your therapist (control or over-involvement or boundary crossings that seem to be portrayed in The Shrink Next Door), listen to your gut.

Hi Lori! Loved your book!! As a therapist myself and a blogger I was curious from a logistical prospective of how you were able to write about your clients? I wondered the whole time: How much of this is true? How much did she have to change? But mostly I just wished were we’re coworkers/friends because I enjoyed every word and lesson you wrote. Thanks!

This is not a question. I have struggled so much with exploring and knowing myself as an individual in this universe (this sounds so existential but I'm existential unfortunately). Your book gave me a clear path on where to start to mentally get better by actually understanding myself. I laughed and cried so hard reading it! It touched me on a very deep level like no other book I have read! Thank you for writing it! ?
