Trudi Cohen asked Lori Gottlieb:

Dear Lori, I loved your book--I was wondering how you feel about therapists like the one featured in "The Shrink Next Door" podcast and if there's any way a client can protect him or herself from an unscrupulous therapist?

Lori Gottlieb Hi Trudi, somebody JUST mentioned that podcast to me yesterday, so I haven't heard it. So with the caveat that I don't know the story other than how it was described to me, I'll say that situations like those tend to get a lot of attention (for good reason; the public should know) and that the 99% of therapists who are doing their jobs ethically and for the right reasons don't make for juicy dramatic stories like that one. I hope in my book, I give a good sense of what therapy tends to be like. That said, if something ever feels "off" with your therapist (control or over-involvement or boundary crossings that seem to be portrayed in The Shrink Next Door), listen to your gut.
