I feel grateful that my career revolves around psychology and the human condition, in whatever form that takes--seeing people for therapy, writing my weekly "Dear Therapist" column for The Atlantic, writing this book. I like the balance of the in-person work with the writing work. I wouldn't want to do one without the others. They're very complementary and help people in different ways.

Absolutely loved your book! One of the best I have ever read. In the beginning I was not comfortable with going to therapy but decided that I needed to and it has helped a lot. The hard part is saying what I feel out loud to her because I struggle with understanding my own feelings and do not know how to describe them. I usually just sit there unsure what to say. Does this get easier? Is there a way to overcome this?

Lori, I loved the book. As a psychotherapist I could relate to so much. My question is about your health problems. Has anyone connected the fact that you became ill after a vacation in Hawaii and that the Zika virus is prevalent in Hawaii?
