What did you think of the final page? I believe that Fossum muddied the waters instead of providing closure. Although I have been a Fossum fan for many years, I find her penchant for ambiguous endings somewhat irritating.

I agree! I hoped someone here would help me understand the ending. Definitely ambiguous - which annoyed me as well. She really could have opted for a clean ending - I definitely thought that was where she was heading with it. Sejer in her cell - the quiet clicking of the door. She could have let that be her ending. Sigh.

Can someone PLEASE explain the ending to me? I really enjoyed the book but have not idea what to make of the ending. The ambiguous ending spoiled the book for me.

I am a big Fossum fan but I found this book tedious and lacking in any real depth. There were so few characters that there would never be a surprise in the end and so the last page did nothing for me as it was a boring end to a boring book.

The ending was definitely unsettling and also spoiled the book for me. Perhaps it meant the medications had only limited effect, thus highlighting the terrifying characteristics of schizophrenia.
