What makes a writer isn't publishing, getting reviews, or becoming famous. While those are awesome things that could happen (if you work at it) on your journey as a writer, they're nowhere in the definition. To be a writer, you honestly just have to WRITE. Reading is a great way to learn more about writing. I strongly recommend 'Go Teen Writers: Edit Your Novel' by Stephanie Morrill and Jill Williamson.
