Ms. See, I'd like to thank you for bringing such joy into my life through your stunning work. All have transported me to beautiful places. As a Latina-American, I especially appreciate your focus on women of color, as our stories so often go untold. As for my question: will TTGoHL have a sequel?
Lisa See
Thank you so much for your very kind words about the new book. I’m so glad you liked it! I'm not thinking about a sequel, although a lot of people have asked about one. I like the open-ended feeling at the end of the book. I'm not going to write a sequel. My editor and I talked quite a bit about whether there should be an extra chapter. But what would be in it? In real life what would happen is that Haley and Li-yan would tell their life stories, but we already know what happened over the previous twenty years. I ended up not only not writing that chapter but cutting about ten pages from the last chapter. I think there are plenty of hints about what might or could happen. I hope people think that Haley and Sean will live happily ever after. (I cut his proposal and the plans they made for their future.) And I think there's a hint of what else could happen in the scene where Li-yan tells Ama that people know where the grove is and might be coming. Ama asks, "What are we going to do? Who's going to help us?" Well, that person is just about to walk up the hill.

Hi Lisa! I just wanted to say thank you for writing "The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane." It's one of my favorite books -- the ending was absolutely beautiful and made me cry. As a Chinese-American myself, Li-yan's story really touched me on a personal level and made me think about my relationship with my family. Oh, I also have a fondness for tea, so that part was fascinating! Lee L. from So Cal :-) (had to add ?)

I loved Shanghai Girls and sympathised with the characters fight against the authorities and prejudices on arrival in the U.S.A. & wonder how you would compare that now with the fears and prejudice displayed by the Trump administration on the Middle East? I have just spent 2-years work in China and made some great friends there, but also get the feeling of being watched by the authorities. Great Firewall & travel etc.

Dear Lisa See, First of all, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate your talent and hard work! I want to start writing my first book, I already have the plot and some scenes written in my laptop, but I cannot actually start writing because I can't find the best names for my characters. Do you have any tips for me? How do you name your characters? Thank you!
