I enjoyed Tidelands it was different from Gregory's usual historical fiction about royal queens. The protagonist is not a famous, or even well-known woman, just a poor woman struggling to support her 2 children with few resources. The 17th Century was one of great challenge for Royalists and those who still followed the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church in England. Cromwell with his parliament wield all the power and, at the same time, take all the joy out of traditional Christmas celebrations. The descriptions of the tidal area of Sussex is also very interesting (less)
