What is the element that connects between the book Metaphors we live by and a Hero with a thousand faces (Campbell)?

Kelly Kerns A thousand is an arbitrary large number. I believe that Campbell himself would argue the point of mythology is not to be exact but to "represent" and idea, concept, metaphor or allegory.

Campbell's premise of the MonoMyth is that all mythology follows a similar structure or story arc. A call to adventure is a fundamental piece of each story. The "heroic" epic follows.

By presenting the metaphor of a "Hero" with a "1000" faces, Campbell is asserting that the same protagonist can be put into any story anywhere in the world in any culture or religion. We all live the same story and are more alike than our diverse world views would suggest.
Darshan Shetty I don't think there is a direct connection between Metaphors we live by and A Hero with a thousand faces. The overarching objective of Metaphors we live by was to make the reader aware that the use of Metaphors happens to hide or highlight certain aspects of reality. (Argument is War vs Argument is Dance). Whereas a Hero with a 1000 faces is going the opposite way, where it analyses metaphors from heroic myths around the world and gives a realistic interpretation.

So, MWLB is going from Reality to Metaphors and AHWTF is going from from Metaphors to Reality. Thats my two cents
