I have recently started reading more historical fiction and this has got to be my favorite! I would love suggestions of read alike books. Everything is seeming to fall a bit flat after this one. Any suggestions?

I haven't read The Indigo Girl, but other historical fiction books set in a similar time period that I enjoyed are The Invention of Wings (Sue Monk Kid), The House Girl (Tara Conklin), and The Kitchen House (Kathleen Grissom). Three other books set in more recent time periods but covering racial inequalities are Calling Me Home (Julie Kibler), The Secret Life of Bees (also by Sue Monk Kid), and The Help (Kathryn Stockett).

I also enjoy books set during World War II, and several I would recommend are All the Light We Cannot See (Anthony Doerr), The Book Thief (Markus Zusak), The Nightingale (Kristin Hannah), and Those Who Save Us (Jenna Blum). (less)
