Anyone else getting Stranger Things vibes?

Christopher Ruz Sure, but remember that Stranger Things gave off a Firestarter vibe...
Stephen Soukup Dont forget Stranger Things was created / BASED and inspired on all things of the 80s and Stephen King books/movies as well as Stephen Spielberg stuff, not the other way around!
Andy Potts More like Stranger Things has Stephen King vibes.
Megan I'm about half way through this book and am really enjoying it so far. The book has made me think about Stranger Things and also The Shining. King mentioned two little girls dressed alike and it reminded me of the creepy twin girls dressed alike in The Shining. Is anyone else enjoying this book as much as I am right now?
Martha "There were no books, movies or shows before I was born."
Christina Stranger Things gives me a Stephen King vibe. Extraordinary children have always been quite common in King books, starting with Carrie.
Brian Cole For me, it's like Stephen King is hopping back on the same wave he started back decades ago. Stranger Things made a story borrowing elements from King's stories, and now King is sort of making his own perspective on Stranger Things. Like, we saw Eleven after she got out and a few things that were going on inside the lab in the show, and in the book we get to see sort of what kinds of things could theoretically go on there.
Mary Ann King has always written about kids. I would have to say the opposite - Stranger Things has vibes from King's books.
Simon Firestarter vibes. Plenty of speculation that the Institute itself is The Shop. Also, Dean Koontz vibes, as he wrote in this sub-genre also.
Nicole I think it's gone full circle--Stranger Things was clearly inspired by the works of Stephen King, and now The Institute was clearly inspired by Stranger Things. I think that's what helps give this book the feeling of a "classic" King novel. It's a lot more similar to Carrie, Firestarter, and "The Body"/Stand By Me than most of his newer novels have been because those classics are the ones that Stranger Things most emulated.
Josh Farhi you do realize Stephen King is the duffer brothers MAIN INSPIRATION FOR STRANGER THINGS, right? This man inspired that whole TV show with his collection of novellas, MOST of which are even scattered Easter eggs throughout the whole show
Warren My 1st thought was Firestarter.
Shawn For sure. Also, "The Girl with all the Gifts."
Amanda Buehler How funny! I just finished and kind of got the same thing. I totally pictured Tim (cop) as Hopper :)
Ashley It’s like a group on Elevens on meth & steroids. Truly SK at his best.
Lesa Parnham a lot of little things...The Shinning.
Suman Panda Towards the end. it felt like the NetFlix series "OA".
D G Stranger Things meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Jackie I was also thinking of Doctor Sleep with the reference to the force behind the gifts.
Carcassie why doesn't anyone asked if Institute is (as Stranger Things) about the project Montauk?
Gwyneth Melodee nobody in these comments passed the vibe check
Sybille I was more reminded of Firestarter and there was a hint of It in there as well.
R7835 This made me think of the Breakers from The Dark Tower
Dana I thought of X-Men!
Erin Definitely. I pictured young Finn Wolfheart as Luke.
Lauryn Martin The only thing they have in common is the telekinesis part. But I guess you could say the monsters in this novel are just as bad as the Demogorgon's.
Steve Carrie was about a powerful Telekinetic in high school .... written in 1974.

King was on this stuff a wee bit before the folks at Netflix :)
Bill Bontrager Yeah, it's my thought exactly. It does remind me of Firestarter as well, only not as intriguing. I found much of it worn out and boring.
Kimberly Lots of this theme about lately, kids with superpowers.
Jeannie That was my first thought! But I will definitely read it and find out.
Chad Somewhat

I'm also getting Inspection vibes
