Quit worrying about your first, second, third, or fifth draft being horrible. It's going to be, but understand everyone who's a writer knows this. Keep writing anyway. Join a critique group of like minded writers (same genre is very helpful) and critique each others work. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Really write deep, layered characters. Don't think this is a quick process and absolutely don't put crap out there. No matter if you go traditional publishing, small press, or indie, put the best possible product out there. Listen to those around you. If you keep getting the same feedback, listen!
