Scott
Scott asked Dave Schaafsma:

Hi David, love your reviews. I recently read Calypso, and the recurring thought I had was that he reminded me of Orwell and Steinbeck's non-fiction. Clearly, Sedaris is going all out with observational humor, but the same thing is a hallmark of both Orwell and Steinbeck's flavor. Am I off base on this?

Dave Schaafsma Sorry for the delay in my response, Scott. Just happened to see it now. I think there is a warmth and humor and informality in all of these writers. They are all unpretentious, they don't use big words or try to impress. They seem like they are talking to you. Very accessible. So some English professors think they are not great writers because they are so straightforward, but there is no question they are all three of them great writers.
