I am currently reading Obscura and losing my entire damn mind over how good it is. I am a big fan of Solaris, Sunshine, and Event Horizon, and see shades of them in Obscura. Were any of those influences on this work? What were your major influences and inspirations for this novel? Thank you for writing the best sci-fi I've read in a while.
Joe Hart
Hi Brianna, sorry for the late reply! Thanks so much for the kind words, really glad you're enjoying the book. Haven't seen Solaris, but very much enjoyed Sunshine, and Event Horizon is one of my all time favorite movies, so the latter was a big influence. Also really liked The Martian but wondered what a different, creepier version could be involving isolation in space. Obscura was the outcome. Thanks for the question!

You are certainly amoung the very best. I just finished Singularity. Wow! What a page turner! I am getting ready to read 'The Waiting", the last of several I've down loaded & read. Keep up the good work. Your stories are awesome!!?

I finished reading The First City at about 1am this morning! and absolutely loved it. The first thing that popped into my head was I would love more from this world and its characters! I want to know more about the First City and its people, as well as those in Seattle. Would you ever consider revisiting "The First City" and its residents again, maybe set a few more years on when Ellie & Lynn are a bit older?

I just finished Widow Town and thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt like it had shades of Hannibal (the TV show) and classic horror like Wrong Turn, and the Southern Gothic genre but in-the-future. PLEASE write a book about Danzig, though, because he was THE BEST. What was your inspiration for his character?
