Goodreads asked Rui Chan:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rui Chan First, write! Just like sports, you need practice so read and write as much as you can. It's ok if you're not good at spelling or grammar. That's something you can worry about once your story is completed, and there are plenty of people to help with that.

Then get people to read you. Preferably different sort of people to get different feedbacks. Ask them to honestly tell you what they like or not, how they think you could improve. Accept that they might not like what you wrote at all and ask them why. Maybe they're just not the right audience. Or maybe they can make get better. Maybe both!

Of course you want what you wrote to be liked and considered pure gold. Probably won't happen so be at peace with that. And there's no writer that's universally liked, so be sure to remember a negative review does not mean your career as a writer is over!
