Goodreads asked Ausma Zehanat Khan:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Ausma Zehanat Khan Immersing yourself in a new world. Dreaming on paper. The chance to articulate things that are not normally spoken, and when spoken are not always heard. The ability to do a spark of good in the world by touching on our common humanity. A writer I admire once said: "The novel is the biggest and most important repository of questions, because it re-reads the status quo, flees certitudes, seeks out possibilities and sounds out other facets." I believe that, too.
