How do you get inspired to write?

Ausma Zehanat Khan Music and poetry help to inspire me when it comes to how to use language. Ideas usually come from a mix of current events, topics that interest me personally--in the case of 'The Unquiet Dead', it was the history of Moorish Spain--and also I'm inspired when I have a story or a viewpoint that I want to communicate through the mouthpiece of a series of imperfect characters.
