You answered your own question: you want to please God first. You can't put both God & a man in the number 1 place. You will only continue to feel torn if you treat them both as equals. You already knew that, didn't you? After 4 years of being with John, one of you should have proposed by now. If he doesn't want marriage, then he never will.

This is an odd question for goodreads. A far better choice for this question would be a Christian counselor or women's pastor.
