mimo asked Genevieve Cogman:

I recently got obsessed with your books and have been trying to figure out the Chinese characters that correspond to the dragons' names, since Chinese has a lot of homonyms. For example, one of my guesses is that Mu Dan is 牡丹 (I really hope that shows up) meaning peony; is that right? And what about other names like Li Ming and Kai?

Genevieve Cogman I can confirm that Mu Dan is "Peony", though I can't confirm the characters - I asked my sister-in-law, who's Chinese, for advice on a name for that character, and that was her suggestion. But otherwise, I'm afraid that I don't know Chinese characters and can't tell you which ones are appropriate. I try to do a reasonable amount of research to check that the English transliterations I use are valid names, and I check them with Chinese friends, but when it comes to the correct characters, I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm ignorant.
