Can you remember the first time that a piece of art really grabbed a hold of you? What was that like and do you recall what piece (or artist) it was?

Oh, there have been so many. I remember as a high school teacher that a colleague of mine, a counselor, had in her office a painting of a young black man in a graduation robe and wearing a mortarboard, clutching a rolled up diploma, and taking huge strides, as if hurrying toward a wonderful future. The tassel on the mortarboard was flying, indicating his speed and energy. I imagined it to be an inspirational painting for many of my high school seniors.

Which books have been your favourites and how do you choose an artist to write about? After reading Artemis I happen to see a movie about her and I was disgusted how their turned her character into erotism when in fact she was raped. Did you see the movie? If so what was your reaction?
