What exactly happened in the end? Spoiler alert. I can't figure it out.

Geri Sasha is the one who died on the plane.
Sasha's plane Aeroflot 409 is the one that takes off first.
During the crash landing the pilot is saying mayday …moreSasha is the one who died on the plane.
Sasha's plane Aeroflot 409 is the one that takes off first.
During the crash landing the pilot is saying mayday for flight AF409.
We know Sasha was chasing his presidential Ambition which he regrets as he notes how much he didn't realise Vladimir would go to not have an opponent.
Also, we know that Alex's plane takes off second because the captain says traffic control told him to wait for an Aeroflot plane to depart first.
After Sasha's plane crashes, Alex's plane is the one being referred to as continuing on its flight unaware of the tragedy (as it was already established it was the second one).
Also when the cabin door opens at the airport, Alex is the one who steps out first.. perhaps an indication that he's coming off a private jet?
But his impromptu speech and declaring that he was going to run for presidency when he'd just come for a funeral and also just got Evelyn off the board was strange as Alex was never written to want to take up politics as he kept declining the offer. (Though the beginning of his speech sat the airport was reflecting the one he gave in Davos)...

Still an unnecessarily confusing end...had to re-read those last few chapters.(less)
