I get inspired to write by the oddest things. It could be an object, something someone says/does or it could be someplace I go. My husband and I were traveling to Rhode Island recently when I saw this barren, dead tree in the middle of a farmer's field. I quickly pulled out a tablet of paper and wrote an idea for a book based on that one tree. That idea is mulling around in my brain. Eventually, I will write it!
