If I could write a standing ovation I would. Such a great read you should be so proud, not only wonderfully written, but an important piece of history as well. Thank you for sharing your story. My question is, how many country’s did you visit to do your research and was it hard to visit Poland and the places your family lived? Especially the ghettos? Also, how long did it take to write the book?
Georgia Hunter
What amazing feedback - thank you, Julie! It wasn't always a full time job, but unearthing and recording my family's story was my focus for nine years! I began my research in 2008 and the book was published in 2017. I visited seven countries in all in my research. There is no longer a ghetto in my family's home town of Radom, but there is an empty square where the synagogue once stood, and a now decrepit Jewish cemetery, which felt haunting. I visited some concentration camps too, which was of course very hard. All that said, I'm so glad I took the time to travel in the footsteps of my relatives. It was a very moving experience!

I absolutely loved reading "We Were the Lucky Ones" so thank you for writing it. You said it took almost a decade of research, travel, interviews, and drafting to put out the book. I can imagine that at times, what you discovered was heavy and quite emotionally taxing. Was there ever a point you wanted to give up and drop the whole idea? And if so, what kept you going?

Ms. Hunter,
I just finished reading your book and I absolutely loved it! I have a question about Caroline. Is she Jewish? I know that was her first Passover at the end of the book, but I thought maybe she might not have been religious.
Also, any plans on a future novel?
Thanks!
