Pino was the middle man flanked by both the Allies and the Axis receiving transmissions from what Pino saw. I think Leyers was getting briefed on allies communication from the axis communication intercept division. The Axis were triangulating the Italian shortwaves, I would imagine they were listening in too? My hunch is Leyers noticed details of the intercepts with his own-and Pino's-schedule. He saw patterns in the game of war-game-telephone. (less)
