Jeremy Rowley asked Craig Alanson:

One more set of questions, last time I promise: What did you do for a day job? How long did it take before you could quit that day job and write full time? Are you making enough to live comfortably now as a full-time writer?

Craig Alanson While writing books for years, I was a finance manager/software developer for a big IT company. Finally my wife persuaded me to self-publish on Amazon in January 2016 and I quit my job in August 2016, which I still can't believe. According to Amazon, I am consistently one of the top 10 sci fi writers in the USA, and much of the time I am in the Top 100 writers overall on Amazon, so I am able to pay the mortgage by writing full-time.
