Goodreads asked Vernell Chapman:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Vernell Chapman The best thing an aspiring writer can do is to have a plan and to carefully analyze what their goals are for becoming a writer. The more you know, the more you can prepare yourself for the possible outcomes of a writing career. An aspiring writer should ask themselves the following questions:

1. How do you plan to meet your goals?
2. How much time do you have to invest in writing?
3. Will you pursue a traditional publisher or will you self-publish?
4. What is your marketing plan?
5. Who is your target audience?

Once you've done all your homework, you've answered these questions and you have a plan, then you can execute your strategy. And if being a writer is what you truly want, be prepared to give 110% to make it happen.
