Author here. When a person reads a book for free online (one supplied online illegally), it really doesn't help the author at all, or the publisher and agent who have put lots of their time and energy into creating and selling a book. I'd recommend going to your nearest public library and borrowing the book for free. If your library doesn't have a copy, you can always talk to the circulation director and request it!

Along the same lines as the author's comment, if you have a library card, sometimes you can check out an ebook from the library that automatically gets returned to the library after the lending period is up.
