Lois McMaster Bujold:
What fantasy and sci-fi authors have most inspired you? Both before you started writing and while writing...
Lois McMaster Bujold
I'm pretty sure I've answered this one before, a couple of times, earlier in the Q&A column; scroll down. But to recap, pretty much everyone who was published in Analog Magazine in the 60s, and whatever I could find on my libraries' shelves during that decade. Worth particular mention are Cordwainer Smith, Poul Anderson, Randall Garrett, Anne McCaffrey, Zenna Henderson, L. Sprague de Camp and Fletcher Pratt, Eric Frank Russell, Tolkien of course, early Zelazny, and Fritz Leiber.
When I started writing, I had the most help from Patricia C. Wrede and Lillian Stewart Carl. (By that point, reading nonfiction became more useful for inspiring stories.)

Hi! I am a huge fan. I have been re-listening to the Vorkosigan books recently, and I was wondering… have you considered writing a book about one or more of Elli Quinn’s sons leaving Athos and coming to find her? I think it would be really fun to see how they interact during an adventure together. Thanks so much for your wonderful books!

Are you done with the Vorkosigan universe? It's been a big part of our whole family's lives. We always anticipated a book in which Ivan's careful avoidance of obvious competence came out (probably because of a woman he was in love with) and I have to say that Vorpatril's Alliance did not disappoint. But I'd love to see one with Mark as the protagonist, and also Miles as he gets older.

Upon rereading Gentleman Jole, I was struck by a simple question: enabling technology is a fine thing, but would you really want to start raising children at your age? And on the topic of reproductive tech, what do you think of Lavie Tidhar's Central Station? It's wonderful to see how different authors take similar premises in very different yet thought-provoking directions.
