Kimberly asked J.D. Barker:

I am more than hyper with excitement in awaiting the release of "DRACUL". (SIDE NOTE: Release date is my birthdate!-Oct. 2nd) And yes, it has been asked as a birthday gift. It's been a long while since I was excited about a day making me older. Q: Is there a subject matter(s) you would/will refuse to write about? Needless to say, I am a huge fan of your thought process &writing. Wishing you continuing success.

J.D. Barker Well, that's an excellent birthday! That was a fun book to write, I hope you enjoy it.

Subject matter I won't write about? Oh boy, that's tough. If a story calls for a particular angle, I've never shied away, even if it's a topic I don't like. I'm a believer in either diving in with both feet or not at all. This may sound weird but at that point, it's really the character talking, not necessarily me. A character may use certain language, or say something derogatory that I personally would never say. A character's beliefs are not necessarily my own. I suppose that creates a shield for me and empowers me to cover topics in a story I may not be willing to discuss in real life. Sometimes the stories we don't want to tell, don't want to talk about, are the ones that need to be out there most.
