Christine Fay
Christine Fay asked Fiona Davis:

I'm very excited to read your new book, which just came out this month! How do you get your ideas for your books? Are they some sort of divine inspiration or are you methodical about choosing your topics?

Fiona Davis Hi Christine - thanks for asking! I usually consider a building first - the Barbizon Hotel for Women, the Dakota, Grand Central - and then I do a lot of research to see if it will work as a setting for a fictional story. As I do the research (interviewing experts, residents, reading lots of books and articles), ideas for the characters tend to start forming in my mind - often inspired by real people I've read about. So it's an organic process that starts with a seed of an idea and grows through learning more about the place and the people who populate it. I hope this makes sense. :) Best, F.
