Lisa Mcbroom asked T. Greenwood:

Your characters leapt off the page for me. Have you read the novel Lolita or seen the movie?

T. Greenwood I first read LOLITA when I was a teenager. I didn't read it again until after I became a mother (to two daughters, no less). Needless to say, the two reading experiences were quite different. The last couple of times I've read it were by listening to the audio book (narrated by Jeremy Irons -- who is a brilliant Hubert Humbert). I didn't read it while I was writing R & S...but I listened to it in my car as I was driving around for the New England portion of the book tour. And once again, my experience of it was so different. This time, I was reading it with Sally in mind. I still admire the gorgeousness of the language (his SECOND language!), the word play, the poetry. That is what I think is so tremendous -- the interplay of the ugly subject matter and the beautiful writing. That is something I consistently strive for in my own work.
