As other readers have commented, Manny's desire to feel safe, to feel loved, to feel understood, even the need to feel taken care of, makes it a bit easier to understand the possible reasons why he had affairs. Esther Perel talks about these issues in her books/podcast/TED talk. I'm going to ignore the fact that you thought he was Mexican instead of Ecuadorian after reading the 400+ pg. book. (less)
