Goodreads asked Viviane Elbee:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Viviane Elbee I would strongly advise all aspiring writers to join a critique group with other people who want to write professionally or who are already professional writers. Sometimes you may have to look around to find the best critique partners - the best ones will push you to improve your work through constructive criticism, while also encouraging you to continue through the tough moments. It also helps to join professional writing organizations. Writers for children should strongly consider joining SCBWI (society of children's writers and illustrators). There are writing organizations for all the different genres (romance, sci-fi, etc...). You can also join writing groups on social media. This helps keep you informed about industry trends and best practices.
