Not only did Jack and Evie start out as a sort of enemies-to-lovers thing (which is my favourite), but their development as characters together!! Like oh my god. Jack and Evie are always learning from each other, even when they're not together. They better themselves to make this work, and, personally, I think it was clear to see that Evie just wasn't as happy with Aric as she was with Jack. Jack doesn't keep Evie confined, doesn't make her feel like she has to pay penance, and doesn't make her feel guilty for things the other Empresses did. It's not Evie's fault, and I really dislike that Aric puts that on her.
Also, can I just say this is like one of the only series with a love triangle where I've known 100% the whole time which team I was one??? (less)
