What was your research process like for writing GUMIHO? It's such an interesting setting and concept!

Kat Cho The idea came from a myth I remember hearing as a little girl and was reintroduced to in a modern way through Korean Dramas. The setting seemed like it had to be Seoul because it was what was so true to the story, so I spent a lot of time with my memories of my time spent there as both a child and adult. I was also really lucky to go to Seoul a few times after the idea came to me (a privilege I know not many writers get so I'll forever be grateful for). I of course ended up getting beta readers who were also Korean because I believe that everyone can do with a read for content when it's un/underrepresented cultures. But the process is definitely ongoing as I go through revisions with my editor! It's been a good practice in making sure all story elements are purposeful.
