Sonia Hartl
Sonia Hartl asked Kat Cho:

When you start thinking about writing something new, what comes to you first? A character, a setting, or a premise?

Kat Cho Oh this is so hard to answer cause I honestly think I've started a project from all three! I've definitely had the image of a character that seemed so alive I HAD to write a story about them and ended up working hard to find a world and conflict that would fit their amazing presence. I've had other projects that came out of a setting that was so vivid that I had to go there and tried to imagine what kind of characters I'd meet there. I suppose premise is the most common one for me though because a lot of my stories come out of inspiration I get from myths or classics I grew up with and the themes that I am drawn to. So, I guess in typing out this answer I learned something new about myself! Premise often comes first for me!
