What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Charles Todd CHARLES AND CAROLINE: Without a doubt, the Fans! We are storytellers, and it’s our job to reach that audience out there. When we do, it’s the best feeling in the world. We enjoy going to conferences and to bookstore talks and libraries, where we have a chance to meet the people who read and enjoy books. You can learn a lot from them! We make a point to listen. And we love it when they find our characters as real as we feel they are. That means we’ve got it across to someone else, we’ve touched them. And there’s one thing more. We’re fans too, and we’ve had the great good fortune to meet and know some of the best in the writing business. Mystery writers seem to be the nicest people in the world, willing to talk to other writers about their craft. It’s a great community to be a part of.
