Like with stars? Good lord. It's impossible to objectively judge the merits of your own work. Reading The Bear and the Nightingale, I mostly see its flaws. I am proud of parts of it; there's things I wish I'd done differently. But it was my first novel, and it will always have a special place in my heart.

I found your debut novel two days after it's release and picked up your second novel before the book store associates were able to even place it on the shelves after taking it out of boxes. Your writing is beautiful. Thank you for bringing a world to life that I had no idea I needed to experience. I am not familiar with Russian fairy-tales and want to learn more. Where do you suggest that I start to learn?

Hi Katherine, I just finished the "Winter of the Witch" and I just loved the whole series, especially the magical realms and stories of the chyerti. Just thought I would pass along how much I would LOVE to read a collection of stories about the realm you've created/adapted. Between the Midnight Road and the House by the Lake, the possibilities seem endless. Have you ever considered it?
