Chelsea Baughman
Chelsea Baughman asked Katherine Arden:

I found your debut novel two days after it's release and picked up your second novel before the book store associates were able to even place it on the shelves after taking it out of boxes. Your writing is beautiful. Thank you for bringing a world to life that I had no idea I needed to experience. I am not familiar with Russian fairy-tales and want to learn more. Where do you suggest that I start to learn?

Katherine Arden Thank you for reading! I am so glad you enjoyed. If you want to read more Russian fairy tales, I would recommend the collection Russian Fairy Tales by Aleksandr Afanasev. You can also try the fairy tales of Aleksandr Pushkin--although he is hard to translate well and some of the magic is lost. Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka by Nikolai Gogol draws on slavic folklore and has a wonderful creepy feel. If you want more of a scholarly reference, I was greatly helped by Russian Folk Belief by Linda Ivanits.
