A Goodreads user asked Jeff Strand:

As an incredibly big, ugly man, who also happens to be underemployed, latently violent, and friends with at least one drug dealer, I'd like to thank you for finally writing a protagonist I can relate to. I guess that's not a question. Here's a question: do you consider yourself a horror author who writes with a comedic bent, or a comic writer who writes horror stories?

Jeff Strand I wrote it just for you! Though I've done non-horror books like KUMQUAT and much of my YA, I have to go with "horror author who writes with a comedic bent." I go to horror conventions all the time but I've never been to a humor writers' conference. My readership will go for a "serious" horror novel but they generally aren't interested in a non-horror comedy.
