Axolotl
Axolotl asked Jeff Strand:

What was the last "highbrow" book you read? Would it surprise your public?

Jeff Strand Hmmm. Does Kurt Vonnegut count as "highbrow?" If so, then SLAPSTICK. Since he's known as a humorist, I don't think it would surprise my readers at all.

Going back through my recent Goodreads activity, it's more "intelligent but entertaining" than necessarily "highbrow": THE HUNDRED YEAR OLD MAN WHO CLIMBED OUT OF THE WINDOW AND DISAPPEARED by Jonas Jonasson, BEAUTIFUL RUINS by Jess Walter, THE GOOD LUCK OF RIGHT NOW by Matthew Quick, THE DINNER by Herman Koch, etc.

Overall, I don't think my taste in fiction would be TOO surprising for my readers, except perhaps that Sara Gruen is one of my favorite authors.
