Usually if I hear a song that speaks to me or with just the right beat, I'll start thinking to myself, "What kind of character would listen to this?" or "What kind of character would the lyrics or rhythm speak to?"
It also helps that I have an overactive muse, so ideas pop into my head constantly. I just have to find the motivation to put it to paper, so to speak.
