How did you come up with the idea of the book Gone?

Michael Grant I wanted a scenario in which I could get rid of all the adults* and rewrite the laws of physics to allow for super powers. I knew I wanted a fairly large population to play with, and I wanted lots of locales to play in. So, a 20 mile diameter dome in southern California did the trick.

*The Disney rule: first kill off the parents. Jasmine? No mother. Aladdin? No parents at all. Mermaid? No mother. Bambi? Has a mother, so they kill her.

So, if there was no water cycle in the FAYZ, and the FAYZ had been around for at least a year, how were any of the plants able to survive? It's even mentioned in Light that without rain, the trees were dry, so they weren't unaffected by the lack of rain, so how would they be able to survive so long, with so little water? Does it have to do with the Powers of the FAYZ?
