Goodreads asked James Caskey:

How do you get inspired to write?

James Caskey I'm not a big believer in inspiration. There very well might be a fantastic initial idea, but the notion of a writer sitting around waiting for a lightning bolt in order to write is not very realistic. Writing is a job, and it requires discipline and a dogged determination to tell a story. Do bricklayers sit around, waiting for inspiration? No, they just assemble their materials in the shape that they know from experience will accomplish their desired end result. Well, writing is no different. I hate to be that unromantic about it, but it's true.
