(view spoiler)[I wanted to ask the significance of the dog torture scene in you second Prince Of Thorns books.
Was wondering what made you feel the need to include it and if it was hard for you to write? (hide spoiler)]

It's strange to me that although I have been asked variants of this question several times I have never been asked anything about the longer and more gruesome person torture scene in the following book.
And again, I don't believe I have EVER been asked about the significance of ANY scene other than this one.
The significant has always seemed crystal clear to me. It represents a seminal moment in the childhood of the main character, defining his relationship with his father, his refusal to compromise, and potentially explaining other elements of his personality.
The trilogy is entirely character-driven. The significance of most scenes is to the character rather than the plot.
Was it hard to write? It was emotionally hard and technically easy.

Hey Mark, Since you've been writer who doesn't plan: How do go on Worldbuilding? And how do you make the magic in your books consistent to the World/Setting and Plot? Since you do not plan your plot there must come a point where there are two paths the story can take and you have to choose one: What do you do here?

Hey Mark, I was wondering about the summaries of earlier events of the series that you write in your books. Is this something difficult to do, or tedious or for some other reason unpleasant? I'm trying to understand why so few other authors do that. It's such a simple, yet great thing. I cannot express how lost I sometimes feel when an author demands that I remember everything in detail after a year (or 3 or 5)...
