For me as i was reading it I was just trying to think of a scenario where a 31 year old woman going to a party and taking ecstasy with a bunch of 13 year olds wasn't weird or pathetic? I would call her an unreliable narrator of sorts and consider her to be a form of character that has become increasingly popular: a psychologically damaged female who has an unreliable/warped character/personality. Ruth Ware usually has these kinds of characters at the center of her suspense novels.(less)
