although the plot is brilliant - i am wondering if the quality of the writing (not rather simplistic and wooden) has been 'lost in translation' . Does anyone have insight into this?

Andrea I've just finished it and I thought the writing style was appalling. It's probably the worst book I've read in a long while, and this is mostly due to the style - although I thought the plot twists were too contrived as well. So...a rotten tomato from me I'm afraid!
Jamie Smith It's so interesting to see the other comments. I'm currently reading it and have found the writing style (thus far) to be brilliant. Very well executed, with a good cadence. Of course my opinion may change as I get further through it
Di I'm reading it in French. I'm about a third of the way through. The style is you describe it. I don't know how the translator stayed awake to translate it. Why am I reading this book? Because it's easy reading and good for increasing my French vocabulary. And because I want to find out what happens.
Jean-Ann Cooper I loved this book but it got horrible reviews on Amazon for lousy writing, being too long and having too many plot twists. I have to agree on too many twists, but it did keep me on the edge of my seat.
