I'm about a third of the way through. You are right that the style is bit dull and the description of emotions is flat. Why am I reading this book? Because it's easy reading and good for increasing my French vocabulary. And because I want to find out what happens. ... And it was worth persisting to the end. A clever murder mystery. It could have been shortened by cutting out the rather tiresome interspersed bits of advice on how to write a book.(less)

It's an entertaining mystery story - I had to find out what happened. Rather too long and repetitive, though, and the author's thoughts on the process of writing a book are platitudinous and annoying. Perhaps the bits about how publishers manipulate authors counts as satire. (less)
