Fionnula Enright asked Jessica Day George:

i am currently writing a book but when writing it i always slip into whatever kind of writing style is in the book i am reading at that time so when you read over it it randomly switches writing style some times mid sentence how do you just stick with one style without accidentally switching to a different one?

Jessica Day George That's why I read a lot of different things all the time, so that I don't get a certain style fixed in my head. Also, I feel like each book needs to have their own style and voice, and once that gets fixed in my head it's much easier. When things switch back and forth I always know that I haven't figured out how this book wants to be written, you know? Also, after the book is complete, take a break, then read it over again and it's easier to spot those switches and smooth them out, with a bit of distance.
